Band Advice
I need to hire this guy desperately. With his advice my band is sure to succeed.

Some of Obama's accomplishments.
This is our President's video address to the Net-roots convention. If you are a staunch "conservative" these accomplishments will probably make you upset. Otherwise you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. It's a "I'm afraid that every bit of legislation passed by Democrats is a Communist plot to take away my guns, bible, and money!" vs a "hmmm... all this legislation is slight improvements but in most cases protects the beholden interest of the status quo" sort of thing.
I look at many of these accomplishments and feel a nagging "yeah but many of these things are only half-done" kind of feeling. But then I remember how difficult it actually is to get things even half done in Washington. "Change I can believe in?" I guess so. I see it, so I believe it.

Circus Punk
I found myself immediately enamored with this.

So then I found Mucca Pazza and I am thrilled to see this kind of theater accepted in music, and the two intertwining to reach new audiences.
I look forward to following this trend and seeing how it develops further.

Tennessee, Maybe We're More Like Texas?
"Watch, I'll make my shoe secede from my socks!"
Zach Wamp, Republican candidate for governor of Tennessee has said this:
“I hope that the American people will go to the ballot box in 2010 and 2012 so that states are not forced to consider separation from this government.” (ThinkProgress)This is the same crap Rick Perry from Texas pulled. All it is is a base rouser. A way to make noise and get media attention. However, we'll see how positive the attention. I, personally, don't think the Volunteer State wants another Civil War. I don't believe Wamp does either. Unless he thinks there's a lot of votes to be gained with crackpot talk of secession, this is just desperation.
Wamp was quickly called out by Bill Haslam, opponent and mayor of Knoxville:
"I can assure you if I'm elected governor, we won't secede from the union. Period," Haslam said at a campaign stop in Columbia. "You know, the country had that experiment 150 years ago ... I think most Tennesseans are committed to making America better, not leaving it."Even the candidate who's slogan is "Give Washington the Boot" decried Wamp's position, calling it "trademark over-the-top temperament and overheated, sometimes crazy rhetoric." (The Tennesseean)
I suppose it's becoming fairly safe to put Wamp in the same category as, say, Sharon Angle.

So this is the video every liberal pundit (or any journalist who gives two damns about the truth) needs to watch. Someone needs to put this big baby faced smear-mongerer in his place so he can stop raking in piles of cash at the expense of hardworking people's careers, and free up time on the teevee machine so we can focus on real issues.

Hittin the road to Pitchfork.
Here's a video to say goodbye. It's in honor of Psalmships who performed it last night at the Poor House.
It's an odd pairing of song and video. But I think it grows on you.

2 Days!!!!!
In two days time I will be in sunny Chicago at the Pitchfork Music Festival. Oh, I am excited!
Local Natives - Warning Sign (Live on KEXP)
Fantastic cover of the Talking Heads.
But the big deal is gonna be seeing Pavement! I never thought I'd actually get the chance. A dream come true, if you will. Here's the video for 'Shady Lane', directed by Spike Jonez.

M.I.A. - Born Free
Woah, can't believe I missed this. It's 3 months old already. It's pretty out there. Definitely not for children or the easily offended (Nudity, violence, drug use. Not necessarily in that order.) Incredibly well made video, even if it's message isn't entirely clear. What do you think the video says?

I have to say that the reviews on her new album haven't been too pretty. Have you heard it? If so, what do you think?

"Our friend Joe Sabia found this video of a Holocaust survivor, his daughter, and his grandchildren dancing to Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive at various concentration camp sites throughout Europe. The YouTube comments seem to be split between those who are offended by it and those who are on board with this celebration of survival.I for one, am in awe."

New track 'stranded' by the Walkmen!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Early on, we had a whole batch of songs that were based on this New Orleans-style horn playing that (guitarist) Paul (Maroon) was working on," singer Hamilton Leithauser says. "But 'Stranded' is the only one that actually ended up making the album. I think it was maybe the second song we wrote for Lisbon, so it sort of exemplifies our sound from maybe two years ago. I guess it sounds more like our last record, You & Me, than a lot of the other songs on Lisbon. The horn section included my wife, Anna, our lead trumpeter Paul Brandenberg, and a ratty assortment of the other guys we usually tour with — mostly trumpets and maybe two trombones. We had them all into Gigantic Studios, and I sang the whole thing live right there with them and the band. It's always fun doing a big production like that."Love these guys, love the song, love the horns, and I love the description of the recording experience.

The Evolution of an Internet Meme
For your edification , I present to you, the evolution of an internet meme:
1st: A video is uploaded. Said video is unintentionally hilarious.
Step 2: Because of the unintentional hilarity, the video reaches growing numbers of people. It is uploaded onto sites like BruisedMedia to help spread them around, as well as emailed, and posted on social media sites like this here Facebook, Twitter, and my...spac...hahahaha.
3) At this point someone will do a mashup. This one is done by semi-celeb funny man and voice actor James Urbaniuk, and features Kermit the Frog. Geektastic.
5: Step Last: You know your meme is a success when it has been auto-tuned.
This one was done by the best, the Gregory Brothers, reknowned for their series 'Auto-Tune the News.Voila, your meme has fully evolved!
